Tai Chi: Tai Chi is one old form of Chinese exercise beneficial to health, and it is also a subtle, sophisticated, and scientific method of self-defense. It is basically made out of several forms or sets originally derived from martial arts, and it takes the forms of the natural movements of animals and birds. However, unlike martial arts, Tai Chi is performed deliberately slow, softly, and gracefully with smooth and even transitions between movements. Those who practice regularly will develop a healthy body and a calm, tranquil mind. It also provides a practical avenue for learning about balance, alignment, fine-scale motor control, and rhythm of movement. Therefore, the practice will enable you to better stand, walk, run and correct poor posture. This program is suitable for people of all ages and requires no special equipment. Class will meet at the Gauntlett Community Center. Lucia Coren and Louie Yue will provide authentic Chinese instruction.
Yoga: With "Ha" meaning Sun and "Tha" meaning Moon, Hatha yoga is a style of yoga that is physical and at the same time deeply meditative. Maintaining &
Servicing Your Computer:
Your computer is not
very smart. It needs many components to make it work, beginning with the
processor, the brains of the computer. This classroom program is designed
to teach the student how to recognize and diagnose and then to repair
computer problems and system failures. The focus of this program is to
fully explain and understand everything there is to know about a modern
personal computer. Every class will begin with the participating student
receiving a printed copy of the repair manual, in eight (8) installments
for each week of attendance. The manual and class instruction plus a
hands-on open computer will comprise the entire program. You will break
down and reassemble different branded computers, such as Dell, HP, IBM,
and others if one becomes available. Students will be requested to bring a
sick computer into the classroom for therapy and recovery. Detailed
instructions will be presented, including diagnostic testing of the many
devices in the IBM compatible computer. Repair techniques will be
demonstrated and taught using tools of the trade to properly repair the
computer. This course is a good prerequisite for "Build Your Own
Computer". All attending
Build Your Own Computer: This course is designed to teach you how to build your own computer from components and parts that are widely available. You will assemble a personal home computer that is superior to what is being sold in the retail market. It will be necessary for each students to bring their unit to the classroom where the construction and programming will take place. A list of necessary components will be given to the class on the first day, at which time we will determine what each participants will require of their computer. At that time, every student will be given a special discount request card that is recognized at several computer shops where the needed components can be purchased. the cost of the computer can vary from as little as $199.00 (without the monitor) to a highly sophisticated machine with unlimited possibilities.
