Mid County Baseball League Meeting

Wed., Feb. 12, 7:00pm at Gauntlett Comm. Center

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend last night’s meeting.

Here is what we are looking at for potential teams for the 2020 Season:

Seniors
 Highland Park
Haverford/Folcroft
Marple 1
Marple 2
Brookhaven
Garnet Valley
Ridley
Narberth

Juniors (19U)
 Brookhaven
Broomall Newtown
Springfield
Clifton Heights
Aston Valley
UDHL

Both divisions will probably grow as I am in the process of talking to a few teams. Aston Valley and UDHL are in the process of building teams right now. We made changes and our roster requirements are very user friendly.  As I said in the meeting, it is impossible to have an illegal player during the regular season. However, we could potentially require a waiver if from another team’s territory. Territories are defined by school district.  Territories are open to all if outside of county or we have no team within a school district’s territory.

Here is a section from our by-laws concerning rosters:

Article 2
AGES. There is no age limitation for the Senior Mid-County Baseball League.  The age for Juniors (formerly Intermediate) is 19 and under as of July 31st (Approved10/2019)

Section III: Rosters

Article 1
All teams must submit an initial official roster with names, addresses, and date of birth. Each Team in both divisions may roster 25 players.

Article 2
The initial roster is due at the beginning of the season along with the signed player registration form. You can have up to 25 players, plus player/coach (seniors only) who are not counted in the 25 player roster. The roster is open and can be considered drop/add until June20th, when the final roster is due. Any player must be on the final roster on June 20th to be eligible for playoffs. You may add an additional player(s) after June 20th only if you are “in a pinch”. This means you may add a player to get to nine to get a game in. They must sign the registration form before stepping on the field. Regardless of games played, “in a pinch” players are not eligible for playoffs unless on roster on June 20th and played 5 games. (Approved 10/2019)

Article 3
The roster must be pasted inside of the rear cover of the teams official score book, and must be available to managers and directors upon request.

Article 4
Players may be added/dropped from the roster up until June 20th. (Approved 10/2019)

Article 5
Player’s must appear in 5 games during the regular season to be eligible for the playoffs.
(Approved 10/2019)

WE WILL ALSO CONSIDER PLAYERS IN THE JUNIORS WHO HAVE AGED OUT BUT NEEDED FOR SHEER NUMBERS. WE WILL NOT CONSIDER A PLAYER THAT ADDS TALENT TO THE TEAM, BUT RATHER AN AVERAGE TO BELOW AVERAGE PLAYER TO COMPLETE ROSTER ONLY. THIS DECISION IS MADE BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE DIVISION COACHES AND NOT RUBBER STAMPED. A PRIME EXAMPLE WHO IS PLAYER WHO CAME UP WITH THE GROUP  BUT IS A YEAR OLDER.

My name is John McDevitt President of the Mid-County Baseball League administered by MN Recreation. We have reorganized and now have two divisions which are as follows:

Senior EDCO unlimited age

Junior EDCO 19 and under. Most teams in Junior EDCO are generally ages 15 to 17.

Here are some of our other changes for the 2020 Season.

LEAGUE NAME CHANGE

The name has been changed Mid-County Baseball League with two divisions, Musser Junior EDCO Division and Crossan Senior EDCO Division.

The new name of the league came from the original name of the Blue  Route which was the Mid County Expressway which dates back to the 1930’s. The teams are no longer tucked into the southeast corner of the county and cover all four corners of the county and then some. The Blue Route has opened up the county and made it easy (not all the time) to travel from Haverford to Ridley and play a baseball game. Our numbers are gaining strength and we keep the cost to play baseball very low thanks to the efforts of MN Recreation and Frank Gorgone and the Tri- County Umpire Group.

AGE CHANGE

The age change for the Juniors (formerly Intermediates) will remain 19 and under.

The age for the Seniors is now unlimited with no cap and yes, player coaches are permitted.

ROSTERS

A roster is due at the beginning of the season along with the signed player registration form. Regardless of games played, “in a pinch” players are not eligible for playoffs unless on roster on June 20th.

PLAYOFF ELIGIBILTY

Players must be on final roster June 20th and played 5 games throughout course of season.

GENERAL

A TEN RUN rule applies after 5 innings, 4 and a half if home team up by 10.

Please forward this info. to anyone that you know that may be interested in the league or are on boards of other baseball organizations. Narberth and Haverford are expected to join the league in 2020 in the Senior Division. I will send out a press release, change the twitter account and probably set up a Facebook page. We will have a meeting in February and late April in advance of the 2020 Season.

Please feel free to call or email should you have any interest.
